When you’re raising a child or teen with ADHD, you’ve probably tried a lot of things already.

Traditional counselling. Behaviour charts. Rewards systems.

Maybe even medication.

And while some of these can help, many families still feel stuck.

That’s where we come in.

At Berkman Academy, we offer a different kind of counselling for ADHD.

It doesn’t happen in a clinic.

It doesn’t rely on sitting still and talking for an hour.

It happens outside—in nature—with horses.

Why ADHD Brains Need More Than Talk

Kids and teens with ADHD learn best when they move, when they’re engaged, and when the environment gives them immediate feedback. That’s exactly what happens here.

  • Executive Function – Real-world tasks in nature (with horses) strengthen planning and follow-through.

  • Focus & Attention – Movement keeps ADHD brains engaged and active.

  • Impulsivity – Horses give instant feedback, teaching kids to slow down and regulate.

  • Confidence – Success in hands-on activities builds self-belief.

  • Emotional Regulation – Nature and animals help calm the nervous system.

  • Social Skills – Working with a counsellor in practical activities builds turn-taking, communication, and trust.

  • Self-Awareness – Caring for a horse helps kids notice their own emotions and energy.

These are not abstract lessons. They’re learned in the moment, with a horse standing right there.

A Safe and Supportive Approach

Every session is tailored to the child or teen. Some start by simply standing with a horse, breathing, and noticing.

Others jump straight into leading or problem-solving tasks.

There’s no pressure to perform.

No judgment.Just a safe space to learn, grow, and succeed—step by step.
