Veterans often become emotional when they come here.

Here’s why:

The Defence Force trains you for service.

No one trains you for what comes after.

After working closely with veterans, one thing keeps coming up:

They were prepared for combat, not for coming home.

As a veteran myself, I get it.

Feeling institutionalised isn’t just about routine.

It’s about identity.

You belong to a system with clear rules, language, and hierarchy.

Then one day, it’s gone.

What’s left is isolation, loss of identity, social anxiety, emotional shutdown, and distrust.

At Berkman Academy, we help veterans reconnect with themselves.

Not through talk therapy.

Through movement, nature, and working with horses.

Thank you Soldier On Australia for making this happen!
